Here is where Choi’s stoic and quirky character, the mysterious housekeeper Park Bok Nyuh – whose name literally translates to mean ‘woman of fortune’ – changes the equation. Rumour has it that Park willaccomplish whatever is asked of her, even if it means to kill someone. With not so much as a smile, or indeed any trace of emotion, Park helps the family heal wounds and rebuild bonds. Cheongdam-dong Alice
Re-runs 23 May 2014, every Monday to Friday at 6.25pm
on ONE HD (Astro B.yond Ch393)
[Available in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin dub]

SERIES OVERVIEW

Starring Han Se-Keung, played by Moon Geun-young, Cheongdam-dong Alice revolves around her life of hardships which were faced with optimism driven from her very own motto – “L’effortest ma force” which means “hard work is my strength”.

As a student, Se-Keung entered many design competitions which won her several first places. In the very first episode, despite scoring badly in the interview, she gets hired at GN Fashion, an apparel company and her dream job. However, as it turns out, she was hired as the errand girl for the president’s wife, Seo Yoon-joo, also her high school classmate and rival. Yoon-joo was always number 2 in class but is now determined to make Se-Keung’s life miserable.

As she sees how Yoon-joo’s life has made a turn compared to her own, Se-Keung decides to do the exact same thing – marry a rich man. She enlists Yoon-joo’s help and embarks on the project to become a “Cheongdam-dong daughter-in-law”, an upscale, fashionable young lady who marries into the social upper crust in the small, insular, and particularly posh Cheongdam-dong. She meets Jean Thierry Cha, the youngest CEO in the luxury-brand market, who is an independent, successful but petty-minded businessman. Despite living “the life”, he harbors a dark side to him – he was determined to take on revenge to those who have hurt him. On top of that, he has a strong hatred for women whose obsession is luxury-brand products and is gold-diggers.

The title is a reference to Alice in Wonderland, of the heroine’s fish-out-of-water status in the Cheongdam-dong neighborhood as she navigates the strange new world of designer clothes, gossip and consumerism. Se-Keung agrees to a marriage, but what ensures is a warm and cheerful story of finding real happiness.
