ANIMAX CARNIVAL MALAYSIA 2016 COMES TO A SPECTACULAR FINISH WITH 30,000 VISITORS

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia 28 March 2016 – The leading Japanese anime channel in Asia has done it again! The fifth Animax Carnival Malaysia (#AnimaxACMY), held on 26th and 27th March at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, came to a resounding end with a huge turnout of 30,000 visitors!

Since the announcement of the event in mid-February, it has generated a copious amount of conversation and buzz online amongst the anime community, making #AnimaxACMY one of this year’s most anticipated anime events in Malaysia! The carnival has certainly lived up to its hype; fans were treated to an authentic anime experience without even stepping foot in Japan – from live ani-song performances to spectacular cosplays.

DAZZLING LIVE PERFORMANCES
Following the smashing success of the sell-out concert last year, Animax has brought back the live
performances this year for free, so that more fans in Malaysia can get to be part of the concert experience. Headlining this year’s show is three of Japan’s top ani-song artistes: GARNiDELiA, angela and yanaginagi. The three-hour long performances that were spread across the two days saw electrifying performances of tunes from Animax favourites, including Fafner EXODUS and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.

ANIME COMES TO LIFE
The Cosplay Competition this year proves once again that Malaysia is brimming with great talents. The cosplayers took to the stage and clashed in battle to perfectly mimic their favourite characters from their best-loved anime scenes as excited onlookers were bursting with cheers and laughter – turning this into one of the most memorable moments at the carnival. Taking home the title of ‘Animax Cosplay Competition 2016’s Best Cosplayer’ and the grand prize, a Sony XperiaTM Z5, at this year’s cosplay competition is Gan Cia Ceng who cosplayed as the classic Disney villain, “Maleficent”. The 18 year-old was amongst the 10 finalists who turned up with bold and creative costumes. Following closely behind at second place was Raion Leo, who played Doll from the anime “Kuroshitsuji” as she amazed the crowd with her magic tricks and circus skills. Standing strong at third place was Pamela Princess Ng, who came dressed as Hotarumaru from “Touken Ranbu” where she displayed an exciting play in her detailed costume.

One lucky young carnival goer got to snuggle up with the lovable OO-Kun, Animax’s official mascot, as he toured the carnival grounds.
INTERACTIVE & INNOVATIVE ANIME-THEMED CARNIVAL ACTIVITIES
With this year’s theme of Animax Academy, visitors were transported to a captivating fantasy world where they got to put their inner strength, dexterity and intelligence to test through interactive anime-themed games. Upon completion of all the challenges, participants were able to exchange their scorecards for lucky draw chances to win exclusive Animax merchandise.

Visitors were also able to step into scenes of their favourite anime during the carnival at the experiential zones, featuring two of Animax’s blockbusters – One Punch Man and The File of Young Kindaichi R. While some fans took turns to pit their deadliest punch at the One Punch Man booth,
others lost track of time solving the seemingly impossible murder mystery alongside Kindaichi.

At the same time, carnival-goers who managed to vote for their favourite scenes, characters and props at the OO-Kun Creative Corner can also look forward to seeing the final animated sketch being aired on the Animax channel in May.

THE FUN & EXCITMENT DOESN’T END HERE

The long-awaited TV anime adaptation of the popular manga series will tell the tale of Izuku Midoriya, one of the minorities who was born without any powers, as he defies his birth rights and joins the hero-training high school in Japan. Will he be able to match up with his elite peers and emerge as the ultimate hero?
