Pentagon lifts ban on Transgender Troops in Military

The Pentagon has just ended the ban regarding transgender individuals enlisting in the U.S military. Marginalization of LGBTQ community is not welcome in the 21stcentury. The transgender and the queer community won’t feel like second class citizens as they are now eligible to serve openly in the U.S military.

The news was announced on 30th June 2016 by Defense Secretary Ash Carter stating the military will no longer stand in discriminating transgender troops. Despite concerns by senior military leaders, Ash stated at the press conference - “Effective immediately, transgender Americans can serve openly, and they no longer can be discharged or otherwise separated from the military just for being transgender.”

By 1stOctober 2016, the existing transgender troops are able to change their gender identifications in the Pentagon's personnel system and additionally receive the necessary medical care.
